Historical and Spiritual Heritage of Liska

Since the early 1800s, Liska has been a key center of Jewish life, known for its thriving cultural and religious community. Every year, thousands honor Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also known as Hershele Lisker, in Liska. Liska contains over 500 Jewish historical sites, from cemeteries to synagogues, embodying a storied heritage. By the late 1800s, Liska had a largely Jewish population, with around 3,000 residents contributing to its vibrant life. Liska’s influence extends beyond its borders, reaching nearby towns like Kerestir and impacting Jewish life across Hungary. About 5,000 pilgrims and tourists visit Liska each year, drawn by its historical and spiritual atmosphere.

Liska’s heritage preservation is maintained by the combined support of local and international groups.
